City construction and management work taking off
After successive seven years of large-scale urban construction, the modernization of Wuxi city entered an unprecedentedly critical period. On July14th 2009, Wuxi government leaders held a committee meeting to sum up the working status of urban construction and management in the past half year, and promoted the deployment of next phase. Yang Weize, a member of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, delivered a speech. City leaders Mao Xiaoping, Ding Puren, Wu Jianxuan, Lin Guozhong, and Secretary-General Wu Feng-feng participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, the following works were discussed: affordable housing project, infrastructure construction, construction of urban functional carrier, together with energy saving, emission reduction and ecological environment governance. Reviewing the city construction and management work in the previous stage by way of evaluation, displaying achievements with actual data, and clarifying the target in the next stage on the basis of scientific analysis, which was an innovative step in Wuxi. From January to June, 19 roads were extended by a total of 43.5 kilometers. The construction of rail transportation, Jinghu High-Speed Railway and Huning Intercity Railyway at Wuxi, was going smoothly. The 7 lines of urban Yangtze water supply pipe network were all finished, while standard draining areas were being well promoted. In terms of city construction, city management workstations have been built in 622 communities or villages, and the rectification of outdoor advertising, parking lots, and parking orders made obvious achievements.
Yang Weize pointed out that expanding domestic demand, promoting transformation and maintaining stability were the primary tasks this year. Keeping pace on urban construction meant a lot to expand domestic demand and promote transformation. Improving city leaders’ work proficiency was an important and impeding task for promoting work progress and ensuring the accomplishment on all-round goals. On consideration of the profound meaning of next half year, all city levels should promote urban management with requirements of scientific development, coordinate and harmonize development. We should strengthen engineering quality, further perfect engineering construction management system, implement security measures and play full role of financing platform. We also should emphasis on construction and management, unswervingly promote the urban management in order to build integrated and reasonable management system.
Mayor Mao Xiaoping also required that this year was the key year for road construction, all city levels should seize the good opportunity at the macroeconomic policies to make breakthrough on work, successfully finish the tasks in each important time nodes. We should ensure engineering quality, standardize construction procedure, improve design skills, strengthen security management, promote city construction work by reaps and bounds. We should keep the pioneering spirit on overcoming difficulties and reach more achievements. Though we have done well in city management, some mismatching problems were arisen on management, city construction and people’s expectation. Therefore, we should play full role of government, perfect mechanism and system, further build community team, make strict assessment, motivate people’s willingness. Next phase, we should clarify responsibilities and tasks, focus on innovation, promote the construction and management level to new stage. The urban construction and management project were the ultimate beneficiaries for public, we should adhere to the guidance of people-oriented, fundamental interests of public, which won the understanding and support from public.

Urban Planning: preparation for the construction work of twelfth “Five year plan”.
Urban and rural construction would be finished in 2011-2013.
Key bridge construction in 2010: pre-approval procedures; make good urban road and bridge project planning.
Deepen the policies to protect the overall layout of housing, planning, organization and structure to complete protection of housing construction plan.
Road Construction: Start Jin Cheng Road, Tai Chi Road, Rong Wu Road, Xihu Road and Canal Road (Xishan Bridge – Rong Lake Bridge) and other road extension construction. Taihu Lake Highway, Xi Zhang expressways
Waterway Construction: Continue to promote the Sunan Canal, and strive to complete the Waterway Regulation Project and segment construction.
Metro: Line1, Line 2 starts and Line 3 under approval
Housing Construction: Construction of 8,000 affordable housing units;
basically completed the transformation of housing with security problems.
The renovation work on housing project completed.
Public transportation: Further implement the bus priority development strategies, the integration of urban and rural public transport to benefit public, Further regulate the taxi industry management, improve external environment, and establish a good image of taxi industry.
Municipal Facilities: Building Urban Lighting Sensor Control Center
comprehensive utilization of renewable water resources, completion of the East Sichuan Gas Transmission Project.
Other Major projects: Sports Park transformation, Taihu New City
Huishan streets, China Clay Museum (Clay Institute) building. Wuxi Grand Theater project etc.
